The Department of Physical Planning oversees land use, spatial planning and building development within Sagnarigu Municipality, working alongside the Town and Country Planning and Parks and Gardens functions.
Key responsibilities of the department include:
- Advising the Assembly on national land use and physical planning policy
- Coordinating the planning activities of departments, agencies and non-governmental organisations to ensure compliance with planning standards
- Preparing physical plans to guide development decisions and projects within the Municipality
- Reviewing and approving building plans before construction can commence
- Advising on the siting of structures, billboards and masts in line with Assembly decisions
- Facilitating the demolition of unsafe or unauthorised structures
- Advising on land acquisition, street naming and house numbering within the Municipality
