Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly’s Department of Social Welfare and Community Development provides a range of social services to residents, including:

  • Registration of street children and persons with disabilities (PWDs)
  • Support to improve the livelihoods and incomes of rural micro and small enterprises
  • Child maintenance, custody and paternity services
  • Family reconciliation and probation services
  • Prison aftercare support
  • Oversight of children’s homes and adoption processes
  • Supervision of day-care centres
  • Hospital welfare and psychiatric social work services
  • Support services for destitute persons
  • Registration of NGOs operating within the Municipality
  • Community-based rehabilitation and vocational training for persons with disabilities
  • Income-generation support for rural women
  • Poverty alleviation support through the LEAP programme
  • Literacy and adult education classes
  • Mobilisation of communal labour for community facilities such as water systems, schools, libraries and public spaces
  • Community sensitisation and group formation
